Bourbon Geranium originates from Reunion, once called Ile de Bourbon, and is the most auspicious of the pelargonium graveolens family. They are grown above an altitude of 1000m and it takes 300 to 400kg of leaves to produce between 0.5-1kg oil. Extraction of the essential is achieved by steam distillation of the leaves and stalks and is balancing and regulating to both body and mind. In skin care it normalizes sebum levels and promotes cell renewal and emotionally can help stabilise anger, irritability and nervous tension. The principal constituents are geraniol and citronellol in varying proportions. Another important attribute is that has a stimulating effect on the lymphatic system and combined with the diuretic action is excellent for treating cellulitis, fluid retention and oedema of the ankles in massage.
